Given the times, it’s likely you’re not going out on in-person dates, but we still have plenty of clients doing virtual dates, and well, if you’re drinking it still can play a huge factor in the outcome of your date!
Here are some initial thoughts that will be helpful if drinking is something you’d like to be more aware of...
“Pre-date jitters is such a universal experience that there is research out there pointing to the fact that a little less than half of “first daters” have at least one drink before they meet up with their date. But here is where it gets tricky…”
Yes, pre-date jitters still exist even on virtual dates. Arguably, it can be almost MORE nerve-racking because of the general peculiarity of going on a virtual date - it’s just not something we’re used to doing. So, YES the pre-gaming rules still apply.
“Research shows the average amount of drinks consumed on a date is ~2 per person.”
I’ve always said the most you should drink on a first date is two drinks. While I share why inside my program and it’s easier to abide by that general rule in the bar where someone is serving you, at home, access –– and consumption –– is easier because you don’t have to order a drink and wait for it to come out. So pace yourself!
“...there’s nothing wrong with ending the date and saving the fun for the next time you two get together”
There’s an art to leaving a date with just enough anticipation for the next one. You’re in the comfort of your own home, so you might feel a bit more inclined to carry on the date. By all means, if things are going well don’t abruptly stop it, but also, you can do yourself a disservice if you try and prolong the date.
